The park and its secrets
Villa Cagnola enjoys a splendid panoramic view over Lake Varese and the pre-alpine and alpine arc, over which towers the imposing Monte Rosa.
The park, connecting the high floor on which the Villa is situated with the wide valley below, thanks to a structure that enhances its scenic aspects.
It was rearranged by Carlo Cagnola, who created the Italian-style garden beds and laid it out in the manner of the great romantic parks (1856-1860), to which the current layout can also be traced.
An articulated system of avenues runs from the Villa towards the park, allowing for pleasant walks, immersed in nature.
In keeping with the fashion of the 19th century, which favoured the massive introduction of exotic species as a result of botanical collecting and new landscaping designs for residences of delight, monumental tree specimens with majestic bearing can also be admired at Villa Cagnola.
The park is rich in valuable essences. From the gigantic Cedar of Lebanon, to the Sophora japonica, to the Himalayan and Atlas cedars, to the majestic group of Liriodendron Tulipifera better known as the tulip tree, as well as magnolias, plane trees, beeches, Japanese maples, red oaks, Chamaecyparis, Calocedrus, pines and sequoias. Liriodendrons, Liquidambar of the US Atlantic coast; the American Oaks, the majestic Beech trees, the Fagus penduli group, American and Japanese Maples.

Access to the park is exclusively through the main entrance of Villa Cagnola, located at via Guido Cagnola 21.
Opening hours:
- from 1 April to 30 September 08:00 – 19:00
- 1 October to 31 March 09:00 – 16:00
Dogs of all sizes are allowed on a leash in accordance with general regulations on hygiene and public safety.
