The ‘Antonio Vivaldi’ Orchestra, conceived by Piergiorgio Ratti and Lorenzo Pas- serini in December 2011, quickly became a permanent fixture on the Italian music scene, boasting collaborations with the country’s major concert halls, festivals and institutions. Its members are selected from among the most promising young musicians on the European scene with experience in the world’s most important orchestras. The ‘Antonio Vivaldi’ orchestra has more than 200 symphony concerts to its credit, held in the country’s most important concert halls and theatres, including the Sa- la Verdi of the Milan Conservatory, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice, the Teatro Bibiena in Mantua, the Teatro Sociale in Como, the Municipal Theatre in Vicenza and the Filarmonico in Verona. The tour undertaken in Spain in 2014, which always sold out, marked the Orchestra’s debut on the European stage. The international experiences continue in Switzerland and Luxembourg. In December 2019, it performed in China on a six-concert tour. In 2015, just four years after its foundation, the Vivaldi became the resident orchestra of the ‘Serate Musicali’ concert season in Milan, earning itself a leading role in a programme shared by the world’s greatest artists. Also in 2015, the Orchestra inaugurated the newly-opened Teatro Sociale in Sondrio with a performance of Beetho- ven’s Symphony No. 9, which was a great success with the public and critics. As of the 2016/2017 season, the Orchestra also became ‘resident’ in the same theatre. The repertoire of the ‘Antonio Vivaldi’ Orchestra also embraces contemporary music, through continuous collaborations with some of the most important composers on the national scene, such as Silvia Cola- santi, Fabio Vacchi, Giorgio Battistelli, Piergiorgio Ratti and Andrea Portera. The Orchestra also boasts collaborations with world-renowned conductors and soloists. The young artistic director is Lorenzo Passerini (music director) and Ernesto Colombo (production director).
